A lush Italian villa becomes the backdrop for sex, deception, and betrayal in the new thriller\u00a0Electra<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0The Apprentice<\/strong><\/em><\/a>‘s\u00a0Maria Bakalova<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0stars in the film, which is the debut feature from\u00a0Hala Matar<\/strong>. An intriguing premise deserves an equally intriguing poster, and\u00a0Electra\u00a0<\/em>certainly has that. Collider can exclusively reveal the first poster for the film, which will hit theaters on May 2, 2025.<\/p>\n

The film centers around two journalists who travel to an isolated Italian villa to interview a famous musician and his partner. However, everything is not as it seems, and all four of them soon become ensnared in a web of deceit. Matar is the first Bahraini woman to make a feature film in history, and her film is an exploration of “the dangers of leaving wounds unhealed and the masks we wear to belong\u2014how avoiding the hard work of self-confrontation only deepens the fracture.”<\/p>\n

She collaborated with award-winning graphic designer\u00a0Aleksander Walijewski<\/strong>\u00a0on the film’s unconventional poster, which depicts the actors’ faces as masks impaled on the horn of a unicorn. Says Matar:<\/p>\n

“Electra<\/em>\u00a0is a film about lies and deceit, where characters wear metaphorical masks to impress or manipulate others. The unicorn, representing the mask of innocence, is drawn from a painting central to the film\u2019s plot\u2014something I\u2019d rather keep a mystery for now.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Bulgarian actor Bakalova broke out with her provocative role in the comedy sequel\u00a0Borat Subsequent Moviefilm<\/em><\/strong><\/a>; she recently starred in\u00a0The Apprentice<\/em>\u00a0as\u00a0Ivana Trump<\/strong>, and will appear with\u00a0Ryan Reynolds<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Kenneth Branagh<\/strong>\u00a0in the action film\u00a0Mayday<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. Model and actor\u00a0Abigail Cowen<\/strong>\u00a0starred in\u00a0Chilling Adventures of Sabrina<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Fate: The Winx Saga<\/em><\/strong>; she will next be seen opposite\u00a0Al Pacino<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Dan Stevens<\/strong>\u00a0in the horror film\u00a0The Ritual<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. British actor\u00a0Jack Farthing<\/strong>\u00a0has appeared in\u00a0The Lost Daughter<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Spencer<\/em><\/strong><\/a>; he currently stars in the BBC’s adaptation of\u00a0Agatha Christie<\/strong>‘s\u00a0Towards Zero<\/em><\/strong>. Actor\/director\/writer\u00a0Daryl Wein<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0not only stars in\u00a0Electra<\/em>, but also co-wrote its script; his directorial efforts include\u00a0How It Ends<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Something From Tiffany’s<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Electra\u00a0<\/em>was written by Wein, Matar, and\u00a0Paul Sado<\/strong>\u00a0(Leo<\/em><\/a>). Wein and Matar also produced the film with\u00a0Jordan Yale Levine<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Jordan Beckerman<\/strong>\u00a0of Yale Productions,\u00a0Tommaso Bertani<\/strong>\u00a0of Ring Film, and\u00a0Luca Cottafavi<\/strong>. Executive producers include\u00a0Elsa Ramo<\/strong>,\u00a0Tiffany Boyle<\/strong>,\u00a0Nicholas Donnermeyer<\/strong>,\u00a0Rami Farook<\/strong>,\u00a0Will Hirschfeld<\/strong>,\u00a0Scott Levenson<\/strong>, and\u00a0Jason Kringstein<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
