{"id":8083,"date":"2024-11-11T17:40:41","date_gmt":"2024-11-11T17:40:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ramolawpc.com\/?p=8083"},"modified":"2024-11-11T17:53:12","modified_gmt":"2024-11-11T17:53:12","slug":"in-the-news-the-wrap-cinema-eye-honors-nominations-10-24-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ramolawpc.com\/new\/in-the-news-the-wrap-cinema-eye-honors-nominations-10-24-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Girls State,\u2019 \u2018Ren Faire\u2019 Lead Cinema Eye Honors Broadcast Nominations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-348\" src=\"http:\/\/vqt.nlm.mybluehost.me\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/thewrap-logo-e1586916472472.png\" alt=\"Logo for The Wrap\" width=\"300\" height=\"39\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-site-blocks\">\n<div id=\"page\" class=\"site\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"yad-skin-ad-left wp-block-the-wrap-ad\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"content\" class=\"site-content container\">\n<div id=\"primary\" class=\"content-area\"><main id=\"main\" class=\"site-main\"><\/p>\n<article>\n<div class=\"content-wrapper--with-more-from\">\n<div class=\"content-wrapper content-wrapper--has-sidebar content-wrapper--content-max\">\n<div class=\"content-area\">\n<div class=\"entry-content container container--entry-content wp-block-post-content is-layout-flow wp-block-post-content-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The \u00a0Apple TV+ documentary \u201cGirls State\u201d and the HBO doc series \u201cRen Faire\u201d led all projects in nominations in the Cinema Eye Honors broadcast categories, which were announced on Thursday in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGirls State\u201d was nominated in the Broadcast Film category and also for its editing and cinematography. \u201cRen Faire\u201d was also nominated in those last two categories, as well as for Nonfiction Series.<\/p>\n<p>Other broadcast films and series with multiple nominations included Netflix\u2019s \u201cAmerica\u2019s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders,\u201d Apple\u2019s \u201cThe Enfield Poltergeist,\u201d HBO\u2019s \u201cTelemarketers\u201d and National Geographic\u2019s \u201cPhotographer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At its annual Cinema Eye Fall Lunch at Redbird in downtown Los Angeles, the New York-based organization also announced the Audience Choice Award Long List, 16 films that will compete for the audience-voted award; 11 semi-finalists in the short doc category; and \u201cThe Unforgettables,\u201d its annual list of the year\u2019s most interesting documentary subjects.<\/p>\n<p>The Audience Choice Award contenders include \u201cBlack Box Diaries,\u201d \u201cDaughters,\u201d \u201cEno,\u201d \u201cFrida,\u201d \u201cMountain Queen: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa,\u201d \u201cNo Other Land,\u201d \u201cPiece by Piece,\u201d \u201cThe Remarkable Life of Ibelin,\u201d \u201cSugarcane,\u201d \u201cSuper\/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story\u201d and \u201cWill &amp; Harper.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Unforgettable honorees, who will be presented with special medallions for the first time this year, include several of the subjects of those nominated films, including Shiori Ito from \u201cBlack Box Diaries,\u201d Brian Eno from \u201cEno,\u201d Basel Adra and Yuval Abraham from \u201cNo Other Land,\u201d Lhakpa Sherpa from \u201cMountain Queen\u201d and Harper Steele from \u201cWill &amp; Harper.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several of them, including Ito and Adra and Abraham are both the subjects and the filmmakers of their movies.<\/p>\n<p>With the announcement of the Cinema Eye long list, three awards bodies for nonfiction film \u2013 the Cinema Eye Honors, the IDA Documentary Awards and the Critics Choice Documentary Awards \u2013 have released lists of between 10 and 20 of the year\u2019s most notable docs, and the DOC NYC film festival has announced its \u201cShort List\u201d of 15 likely awards movies.<\/p>\n<p>Only two films, \u201cThe Remarkable Life of Ibelin\u201d and \u201cSugarcane,\u201d have appeared on all four lists. An additional four films \u2013 \u201cBlack Box Diaries,\u201d \u201cDaughters,\u201d \u201cNo Other Land\u201d and \u201cWill &amp; Harper\u201d \u2013 have appeared on three lists, and \u201cDahomey,\u201d \u201cErnest Cole: Lost and Found,\u201d \u201cFrida,\u201d \u201cMountain Queen: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa,\u201d \u201cPorcelain War,\u201d \u201cQueendom\u201d and \u201cSoundtrack to a Coup d\u2019Etat\u201d have appeared on two.<\/p>\n<p>In the doc-shorts category, only three films appeared on both the Cinema Eye and IDA lists: the New York Times Op-Docs films \u201cInstruments of a Beating Heart\u201d by Ema Ryan Yamazaki and \u201cA Move\u201d by Elahe Esmaili and the New Yorker film \u201cThe Medallion\u201d by Ruth Hunduma.<\/p>\n<p>The Cinema Eye Honors were established in 2007 to award all facets of nonfiction filmmaking.
