A bachelorette party at a remote desert house is suddenly terrorized by home invaders.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s the plot of the new action thriller, Fear the Night, which stars Maggie Q as the sister of the bride and a hardened Iraq war veteran and skilled combatant. The women battle back against the invaders while searching for their father\u2019s trove of guns.<\/p>\n
Given the premise, you\u2019d expect a classic shoot-\u2019em-up to ensue. You\u2019d be wrong.<\/p>\n
Q wanted to do the film to work with writer-director Neil LaBute (In the Company of Men, Nurse Betty, Lakeview Terrace). She\u2019s a seasoned action star who previously went from Hong Kong martial arts films to appearing in Mission: Impossible III and Live Free or Die Hard.<\/p>\n
But she had one request \u2013 no guns.<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, she\u2019s definitely looking for a gun,\u201d Q said in an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment. \u201cShe\u2019s trying to find her father\u2019s weapons but it doesn\u2019t happen for them. I said, \u2018Let\u2019s get a little more creative.\u2019 If she finds her father\u2019s guns, it\u2019s game over. It\u2019s not interesting.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe guys who are attacking them can\u2019t use guns because they can\u2019t make noise. I was trying to create something that was a little bit different and more creative in the way that they were meant to get out of their situation. Because [in the original script], she finds guns, and there\u2019s a gunfight and all that sort of stuff. So we changed it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Q also a soapbox objection to the use of firearms.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we don\u2019t have to promote [gun violence], why promote it?\u201d<\/p>\n
