Cannes\u2019 Un Certain Regard Title \u2018Joyland\u2019 Swooped on by Condor in France (EXCLUSIVE): <\/h1>\n

Condor has picked up French rights to Saim Sadiq\u2019s drama \u201cJoyland\u201d ahead of its world premiere in Cannes\u2019 Un Certain Regard. The title, the first Pakistani film to be selected in Cannes, will vie for the Cam\u00e9ra d\u2019Or.<\/p>\n

Film Constellation is representing international sales rights. WME Independent is representing North American rights.<\/p>\n

Sadiq\u2019s debut feature centers on the extended patriarchal Ranas family, who yearn for the birth of another boy. Meanwhile, their youngest son secretly joins an erotic dance theater and falls for an ambitious trans starlet. Their impossible love story slowly illuminates the entire Rana family\u2019s desire for a sexual rebellion.<\/p>\n

Condor\u2019s slate also includes Joanna Hogg\u2019s \u201cThe Souvenir Part I & II,\u201d Kelly Reichardt\u2019s \u201cFirst Cow,\u201d Paul Schrader\u2019s \u201cThe Card Counter,\u201d Kogonada\u2019s \u201cAfter Yang,\u201d and Sundance 2022 Grand Jury Prize winner \u201cUtama\u201d by Alejandro Loayza Grisi.<\/p>\n

Condor\u2019s Alexis Mas said: \u201cWe are thrilled to bring to the French audiences this pure jewel. \u2018Joyland\u2019 is so fresh: we\u2019re continuously surprised in every sequence, by the turns of the story and the exceptional level of filmmaking. And we feel that the arthouse audience, who are very curious, will be very excited with discovering Pakistani society.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJoyland\u201d is produced by Apoorva Guru Charan, Sarmad Sultan Khoosat (\u201cCircus of Life\u201d) and Lauren Mann (\u201cSwiss Army Man,\u201d \u201cThe Card Counter\u201d).<\/p>\n

It is produced by all caps and Khoosat Films in association with Diversity Hire Ltd., One Two Twenty Entertainment, Blood Moon Creative, Film Manufacturers Inc., Astrakan AB and Noruz Films from producers Kathryn M. Moseley, Oliver Ridge, April Shih and Katharina Otto-Bernstein.<\/p>\n

Executive producers are Ramin Bahrani, William Olsson, Jen Goyne Blake, Tiffany Boyle, Elsa Ramo, Oleg Dubson, Kathrin Lohmann, Hari Charana Prasad, Sukanya Puvvula and Owais Ahmed.<\/p>\n

The film stars Ali Junejo, Alina Khan, Rasti Farooq, Sarwat Gilani, Sohail Sameer, Salman Peerzada and Sania Saeed, and features cinematography by Joe Saade (\u201cCosta Brava Lebanon,\u201d \u201cBroken Keys\u201d).<\/p>\n

Sadiq\u2019s short film \u201cDarling\u201d won the Horizons Best Short Film award at the 2019 Venice Film Festival, and was acquired for worldwide distribution by Focus Features.<\/p>\n

Film Constellation\u2019s Cannes slate includes Un Certain Regard title \u201cHarka\u201d by Lotfy Nathan, and Jamie Dack\u2019s Sundance winner \u201cPalm Trees and Power Lines.\u201d<\/p>\n
