{"id":4367,"date":"2021-07-09T00:20:12","date_gmt":"2021-07-09T00:20:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ramolawpc.com\/?p=4367"},"modified":"2021-09-02T00:24:10","modified_gmt":"2021-09-02T00:24:10","slug":"screen-daily-07-09-21-cannes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ramolawpc.com\/new\/screen-daily-07-09-21-cannes\/","title":{"rendered":"Breaking Through The Lens participants announced for Cannes March\u00e9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-348\" src=\"http:\/\/vqt.nlm.mybluehost.me\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/logo-article-e1464925179737.png\" alt=\"Screen Daily logo\" width=\"226\" height=\"33\" \/><\/p>\n<h1>Breaking Through The Lens participants announced for Cannes March\u00e9 <\/h1>\n<p> Breaking Through The Lens (BTTL), the year-round programme to promote projects by female and non-binary international filmmakers, has unveiled the 10 finalists in this year\u2019s virtual pitching event at the March\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>They include: Dina Amer\u2019s Cain And Abel (Egypt-France-US) about two French-born Muslims caught on either side of the 2015 Charlie Hedbo attack; Nihaarika Negi\u2019s horror Feral (US) about the arrival of a shaman on a colonial estate in 1950s India; Tricia Lee\u2019s Idol (US), a musical biopic about the celebrated American Idol contestant William Hung; Celine Cotran\u2019s Layla In Dreamland (UK) about a 60-year-old Syrian refugee in Margate; and Farida Zahran\u2019s The Leftover Ladies (Egypt) in which a 60-something woman tries to leave her polygamous husband.<\/p>\n<p>The selection includes: Tamika R. Guishard\u2019s Rhythm In Blues (US) about three foster siblings in New York; Sontenish Myers\u2019 sci-fi thriller Stampede (US) about a telekinetic slave girl in 1802 Georgia; Isla Ure\u2019s The Tides (UK), a drama about a carer and an Iraqi boy seeking asylum; Anita Doron\u2019s animated sci-fi The Truth About Monsters (Canada-India) in which an indigenous boy befriends stranded aliens; and Fisayo Olajide\u2019s Untitled Underground Railroad Ride (USA) about cyclists who follow the route taken by escaped slaves centuries earlier.<\/p>\n<p>BTTL co-founder Daphne Schmon said, \u201cOur team was truly blown away by the quality and originality of the submissions this year. There is a clear hunger for bold female and non-binary voices in our industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BTTL co-founder Emily Carlton added, \u201cThis is about finding films with strong artist merit, that are in a position to receive finance and go into production within the next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis pioneering year-round programme seeks to be a resource for underserved filmmakers, one that is multicultural, intersectional and results-driven,\u201d said producer and primary sponsor Kathryn Moseley.<\/p>\n<p>Tiffany Boyle, president of Ramo PC and a sponsor for the event, said, \u201dAs a female-run law firm, we have always supported the under-represented communities in film and television.
