Paul Schrader\u2019s Crime Drama \u2018The Card Counter\u2019 With Oscar Isaac Sets Fall Release Date: <\/h1>\n

Paul Schrader\u2019s crime drama \u201cThe Card Counter\u201d is coming to theaters this year.<\/p>\n

The film, from Focus Features, has been slated to release on Sept. 10.<\/p>\n

Schrader wrote and directed \u201cThe Card Counter,\u201d a revenge thriller about a gambler who attempts to guide a young man out for revenge against a mutual enemy. The cast includes Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan and Willem Dafoe.<\/p>\n

The story follows Tell (Isaac), whose spartan existence on the casino trail is shattered when he is approached by Cirk (Sheridan), a vulnerable young man seeking help to executive his plan for retribution on a military colonel (Dafoe). Tell sees a chance at redemption through his relationship with Cirk, but keeping him on the straight-and-narrow proves impossible and drags Tell back into his dark past.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Card Counter\u201d is Schrader\u2019s follow-up to his Oscar-nominated \u201cFirst Reformed,\u201d a drama starring Ethan Hawke as a Protestant minister who struggles with his faith. Martin Scorsese is executive producing the film, marking their fifth collaboration following \u201cTaxi Driver,\u201d \u201cRaging Bull,\u201d \u201cThe Last Temptation of Christ\u201d and \u201cBringing Out the Dead.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additional executive producers include William Olsson, Lee Broda, Kathryn M. Moseley, Tiffany Boyle, Elsa Ramo, Ruben Islas and Stanley Preschutti. Braxton Pope is producing \u201cThe Card Counter\u201d with Lauren Mann and David Wulf.<\/p>\n

The movie began filming in early 2020 and was paused due to the pandemic. It resumed later in the summer and was completed last July.<\/p>\n

Focus Features will distribute \u201cThe Card Counter\u201d in the U.S. and parent company Universal Pictures will distribute internationally in the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, ANZ, China and other overseas territories.<\/p>\n
