The fest is set to run March 13-22 in Austin.<\/p>\n<p>In The King of Staten Island, Davidson is a burnout living in the titular New York City borough with his mom played by Oscar-winning actress Marisa Tomei. The movie, which will make its world premiere at SXSW, also stars Bill Burr, Bel Powley, Steve Buscemi and Maude Apatow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJudd Apatow has consistently provided transcendent, exhilarating experiences at SXSW, starting with Knocked Up, then Bridesmaids, Trainwreck, Girls, The Big Sick, and his documentary May it Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers,\u201d said Janet Pierson, Director of Film. \u201cThis March it\u2019s our particular privilege to present his funny and deeply moving new feature \u2014 his first in five years as a director \u2014 The King of Staten Island, starring Pete Davidson leading a great ensemble, as our Opening Night Film.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Previous opening night films for the Austin-based confab include Richard Linklater\u2019s Everybody Wants Some, Terrence Malick\u2019s Song to Song, John Krasinski A Quiet Place and Jordan Peele\u2019s Us, which opened the fest last year.<\/p>\n<p>The fest will include 103 features and episodics which will play across the nine days of SXSW. The 2020 program was selected from 2,316 feature-length film submissions, with a total of 8,362 films submitted this year. Feature films in the SXSW fall in the following categories: Narrative Feature Competition; Documentary Feature Competition; Headliners; Narrative Spotlight; Documentary Spotlight; Visions; Midnighters; 24 Beats Per Second; Global; Festival Favorites; and Special Events. The Episodic program consists of Episodic Premieres and the Episodic Pilot Competition. Additional titles will be revealed on February 5.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to The King of Staten Island, SXSW will debut Kitao Sakurai\u2019s hidden camera comedy Bad Trip with Eric Andre, Lil Rel Howery and Tiffany Haddish; the Michael Showalter-directed Lovebirds starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani; Prentice Penny\u2019s Uncorked; as well as In &amp; Of Itself directed by Frank Oz.
