\u201cLegion\u201d dance partners Aubrey Plaza and Jemaine Clement transition to big-screen scene partners with \u201cAn Evening with Beverly Luff Linn.\u201d Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for comedy, which debuted in the Next section at January\u2019s Sundance Film Festival. That was British director and co-writer Jim Hosking\u2019s second consecutive trip to Park City with a project; he premiered his feature foray, \u201cThe Greasy Strangler,\u201d there in 2016.<\/p>\n
Plaza plays Lulu Danger, an ex-caf\u00e9 employee just laid off by her boss and husband, Shane (Emile Hirsch, soon to be seen in Quentin Tarantino\u2019s \u201cOnce Upon a Time in Hollywood\u201d). During her newfound downtime, she catches a commercial for an upcoming performance from Beverly Luff Linn (Craig Robinson) \u2014 a magician from her past who dresses in head-to-toe plaid and says little. His show becomes the backdrop for the heist Shane engineers to save his business. Unfortunately for Shane, the hitman he hires (Clement) falls for his wife.<\/p>\n
In his review, IndieWire\u2019s Eric Kohn described the proceedings \u2014 all awkward flirting and bungled crimes, including men who wear women\u2019s wigs to rob a convenience store \u2014 as \u201cThree Stooges Meets David Lynch.\u201d The executive producing team includes David Gordon Green; on the very same day \u201cBeverly Luff Linn\u201d hits cineplexes, Universal will also release his latest directing project, \u201cHalloween.\u201d<\/p>\n
