Tribeca Festival Unveils 2025 Film Lineup

Tribeca Festival 2025 is out with the slate of documentary, narrative and animated features for its 24^th edition, a intriguing lineup showcasing music legends, key cultural figures and stories from emerging and established voices. The fest runs June 4-15 in New York City.

Films included feature the likes of Rose Byrne, Demi Lovato and Octavia Spencer in Tow; The Best You Can with Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick; Rosemead starring Lucy Liu; Dragonfly with Andrea Riseborough and Brenda Blethyn; and Everything’s Going To Be Great starring Bryan Cranston and Allison Janney.

There’s a big studio summer tentpole this year with DreamWorks Animation and Universal’s live-action How to Train Your Dragon. The film starring Mason Thames, Nico Parker and Gerard Butler was previewed for exhibitors at CinemaCon a few weeks ago and opens theatrically June 13.

Climate justice documentary Yanuni from producer Leonardo DiCaprio is the closing-night film.

Surviving Ohio State, produced by George Clooney, examines the decades-spanning pursuit of accountability by sexual abuse survivors; and Room to Move, executive produced by Amy Schumer, follows New York City dancer and choreographer Jenn Freeman.

The 118 feature films culled from a record 13,541 submissions represent 94 world premieres, 135 filmmakers and 36 countries. Some 48 (40%) of films are directed by women and 42 (36%) by BIPOC filmmakers. Filmmakers new to Tribeca number 44, with 32 returning.

The slate showcases cultural icons across generations including comedy legend Andy Kaufman in Andy Kaufman Is Me; Barbara Walters in a career-spanning profile in Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything; Gloria Steinem in Dear Ms. on the history and legacy of Ms. Magazine; and Jack Kerouac in Kerouac’s Road: The Beat of a Nation with Josh Brolin, Michael Imperioli and Matt Dillon.

Other features include A Tree Fell in the Woods starring Alexandra Daddario, Daveed Diggs and Josh Gad; Deep Cover with Orlando Bloom and Bryce Dallas Howard; She Dances, written, produced by and starring Steve Zahn and Ethan Hawke; and Sovereign, toplined by Nick Offerman, Jacob Tremblay, Dennis Quaid and Martha Plimpton.

The consumer-facing festival was founded by Robert De Niro, Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff in 2001 to spur the economic and cultural revitalization of lower Manhattan following the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center. In 2019, James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems bought a majority stake in Tribeca Enterprises.

Opening Night Gala: Billy Joel: And So It Goes (United States) – World Premiere. A sweeping portrait of a true New York icon, this definitive documentary captures the grit, genius, and soul of William Martin Joel — from his Long Island roots to sold-out stadiums. With rare archival footage and revealing new interviews, the film charts the rise of one of America’s greatest singer-songwriters, whose music became the heartbeat of a city and the soundtrack of a generation. Closing Night Gala: YANUNI, (Austria, Brazil, United States, Canada, Germany) – World Premiere. Both a love story and a call to action, YANUNI follows the fearless Indigenous chief Juma Xipaia, who has survived six assassination attempts as she leads a relentless fight to defend her people’s land alongside her husband, Hugo Loss, a steely Special Forces Unit ranger.
