It’s a big year for genre at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival, thanks to the work of the Escape from Tribeca programming duo Matt Barone and Jonathan Penner. This year, they’re promising one helluva good time, from a special anniversary screening of American Psycho with director Mary Harron in attendance, to the world premiere of Tina Romero’s Queens of the Dead.

We spoke with Escape from Tribeca programmers Matt Barone and Jonathan Penner about this year’s stellar line-up, which includes incredible retrospectives and genre-bending world premieres.
