Elsa Ramo Named 2018 Trailblazer Elite Honoree

NLJ-logo-oWelcome to the fourth annual issue of Mergers & Acquisitions and Antitrust Trailblazers and the second annual issue of Elite Boutique Trailblazers. The Trailblazer series is a special supplement developed by the business arm of The National Law Journal. We are proud to profile a handful of individuals who are making great strides in their practice area.

For Mergers & Acquisitions and Antitrust, you’ll read profiles on those who have made their mark through the art of deal-making, restructuring and financing. In the Elite Boutique section, we’ve highlighted a number of individuals who have made a remarkable difference in their specialized area of law. The one thing all of our honorees have in common: each has shown a deep passion and perseverance in pursuit of their mission, having achieved remarkable successes along the way.

We received a great number of nominations for each section. We vetted each nomination carefully to procure the list in the pages to follow. We hope you will enjoy reading about this diverse list of honorees.

As with all Trailblazer supplements, the list is never complete. If you have someone you feel should make our list, please reach out and let us know.

Congratulations again to this year’s honorees.

All the best,
Richard Caruso, Vice President & General Manager, Legal Media

ELSA RAMO | RAMO LAW PC

PIONEER SPIRIT

Elsa Ramo was doing contract work about 15 years ago when she decided to start her own law firm. “Films were starting to be made on digital for pennies on the dollar, and there was a void of legal services for that market. We’ve always represented entrepreneurs who exploit content, creators, producers and financiers in this field. That is how we’ve grown so much organically.”

TRAILS BLAZED

Ramo and her team have recently been helping film producers move into television. “That’s where the business is going. We were 100 percent films, and now we are 40 percent content such as TV and VR.” Her clients include Scott Mednick, who produced the movies “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “300.” “He just sold his first TV show, which is in development. We had to educate him and help him into the market.” She has also represented Boardwalk Pictures since its inception. “We helped them, alongside their agency, with the very first unscripted series that Netflix green-lighted, ‘The Chef’s Table.’ I didn’t have a template. We had to negotiate and figure out the nature of the deal. Now Boardwalk is the predominant docuseries producer in the industry.”

FUTURE EXPLORATIONS

In the entertainment industry, consumers’ interests are always changing. “We need to remain adaptable and visionary. In a more crystallized way, we need to continue to expand in series content and deliver more types of service for our clients as we grow.” As the industry consolidates, Ramo plans to continue to retain a voice for independent creators and producers. “There is also a need for distribution. We opened up in New York two years ago to provide nationwide global services that focus on the strategy of content for our clients.”
